for creating positive affirmations

Create affirmations that reflect any of your desires including spreading your recovery message to many.

Negative thinking has been shown through an MRI to affect the part of the brain that promotes anxiety and depression. Even more importantly, negative thinking can literally stop you from moving forward on the dreams you have for your life. It can stop you before you even get started!

And that is why it is important that you challenge your thoughts. When you challenge your thoughts you create a separation from them that allows you to choose whether or not you want to believe them. And once you do that, you can create new, more positive beliefs that support you on your journey in life.

One tool that helps you shift your thinking into a more positive direction is the use of affirmations. Affirmations are short statements of personal belief that help you keep your focus on the possible and the positive. They keep you consciously focused on the present and how you want to feel in the moment rather than on the past or even the future.

So if you’ve never worked with affirmations before (or even if you have), here are my three simple keys for writing powerful affirmations:

An affirmation has to be written in your own voice, has to be personal to you and use “I” or “My” or “Me” to make sure you are keeping the focus on self.
An affirmation has to be written in the present tense and using positive wording. You want to avoid words like “not” or other negative terms.
Keep the affirmation simple and focused on one important aspect you want to change. That allows your mind to believe and accept the possibility of the new belief you are creating. If you have a lot you want to affirm then write separate affirmation statements for each aspect.

Once you have your affirmations, write them down, post them on sticky notes, tack them to the fridge, snap photos of them and keep them on your phone. Maybe you’ll even post them on Facebook as my friend is doing. She is posting them for 40 days in a row, a recommended practice to lock in the new thought process.

Say your affirmations to yourself several times a day. The negative thoughts and beliefs you have didn’t spring up overnight so changing those thoughts and beliefs takes time, focus and practice.

This week I invite you to challenge your thoughts and beliefs and create some beautiful affirmations to begin a shift towards a happier, more fulfilling, more purposeful life.

As for me, here are some of my affirmations I am working with right now:

I am surrounded by Divine Light and Love.
I am at peace today.
I am blessed and grateful.
I am in perfect health.
